Naples

Naples bans pets from every city beach - so the dog trip is built on the Gordon River Greenway, dog parks and Fifth Avenue patios instead.

Naples is a beautiful Southwest Florida destination for pet travelers, but there is one major rule you need to know immediately:

Ordinary pets are not allowed on City of Naples beaches.

That means Naples works best as a dog-friendly trip built around:

  • Parks
  • Greenways
  • Dog parks
  • Outdoor restaurants
  • Pet-friendly lodging
  • Nearby regional beach options

rather than expecting the dog to spend the day on Naples’ famous Gulf sand.

Are Dogs Allowed on Naples Beaches?

No.

The City of Naples currently prohibits pets on city beaches.

Current city beach-patrol guidance specifically lists:

Pets on the beach among prohibited activities.

The city’s pet guidance also states that leashed pets are allowed in public parks but not on the beach.

Clam Pass Park

Clam Pass Park is one of Naples’ best-known public beach parks.

Collier County currently lists:

No Dogs Permitted.

This is a good example of why dog travelers should not assume a county beach park allows pets simply because it has trails and outdoor space.

Lowdermilk Park

Lowdermilk Park is another major Naples beachfront park.

The City of Naples continues to prohibit pets on city beaches, so do not plan on ordinary dog access to the sand here.

Naples Dog Park

Naples Dog Park is the city’s main dedicated off-leash facility.

The current city page describes approximately 1.35 acres of fenced space:

  • About 1 acre for large dogs
  • About 0.35 acre for small dogs

The park includes:

  • Shade structure
  • Benches
  • Human and dog drinking fountains
  • Picnic area
  • Parking
  • Connection to the Greenway

Current hours are:

Dawn to dusk.

Dog Park Registration Is Required

Naples currently requires dogs entering the city dog park to have an annual dog-specific pass/tag.

Current rules require:

  • Registration
  • Current immunization records
  • Dog tag displayed on collar

The city currently lists the registration cost as free.

That is important for visitors.

Do not arrive expecting a completely anonymous drop-in off-leash park.

Gordon River Greenway

Gordon River Greenway is one of the best leashed dog walks in Naples.

Collier County currently describes it as a 140-acre greenway with about 2.5 miles of:

  • Asphalt
  • Mulch
  • Boardwalk trails

The county specifically says the park is leashed-dog friendly.

It also connects to the Naples Dog Park.

Why We Like It

This gives dog travelers a real nature-and-exercise option inside urban Naples.

Veterans Community Park

Veterans Community Park currently includes Rover Run Dog Park.

Collier County lists:

  • Dog park
  • Pets on leash allowed in appropriate park areas
  • 8:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m. park hours

This can be useful for travelers staying in North Naples.

Golden Gate Community Park

Golden Gate Community Park also currently includes a dog park.

The larger facility includes:

  • Paved pathways
  • Picnic areas
  • Sports facilities
  • Restrooms

This is another useful inland Naples-area option.

North Collier Regional Park

North Collier Regional Park currently allows pets on leash in appropriate areas.

The park has:

  • Boardwalk
  • Picnic pavilions
  • Large grounds
  • Walking opportunities

Current county hours are 8:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m.

Downtown Naples

Downtown Naples can be excellent for a leashed dog comfortable with city walking.

Useful areas include:

  • Fifth Avenue South
  • Third Street South
  • Side streets
  • Outdoor restaurant patios

The major limitation is that your downtown walk cannot simply continue onto the beach with an ordinary pet.

Fifth Avenue South

Fifth Avenue South is one of Naples’ strongest dog-friendly city corridors.

The district has:

  • Restaurants
  • Cafes
  • Shops
  • Outdoor seating
  • Walkable streets

Individual businesses have their own pet policies.

Third Street South

Third Street South offers another walkable shopping-and-dining district near Old Naples.

This can be a good early-evening dog outing when temperatures drop.

Pet-Friendly Restaurants

Naples has a substantial outdoor dining culture.

Dog-friendly patio options can be found around:

  • Fifth Avenue South
  • Third Street South
  • Tin City
  • North Naples
  • East Naples

We’ll maintain a dedicated Pet-Friendly Restaurants in Naples guide.

Pet-Friendly Hotels

Naples has pet-friendly lodging ranging from:

  • Luxury resorts
  • Downtown hotels
  • Extended-stay properties
  • Vacation rentals

But remember:

A pet-friendly beach resort does not override Naples’ city beach prohibition.

Vacation Rentals

Rentals can be particularly useful in Naples because they may provide:

  • Yard
  • Private entrance
  • More indoor space
  • Kitchen
  • Laundry

For a dog-focused stay, an inland neighborhood near a greenway or park may actually work better than beachfront lodging.

Where Do Naples Dogs Go to the Beach?

Naples itself is not the place to plan a legal city dog-beach day.

For off-leash beach time, Southwest Florida travelers often look farther north toward Bonita Beach Dog Park, near Bonita Springs.

That is outside Naples and should be treated as a separate regional outing.

Heat

Naples is hot and humid much of the year.

Use:

Early morning: long walk or dog park Midday: air conditioning Evening: downtown patio or greenway

Alligators

Naples and Collier County have extensive freshwater habitat.

Assume alligators may be present around:

  • Lakes
  • Canals
  • Ponds
  • Marsh edges

Keep dogs away from freshwater shorelines.

A Good Pet-Friendly Naples Day

Morning: Gordon River Greenway.

Late morning: Naples Dog Park if your dog has the required registration/tag.

Midday: Air-conditioned break.

Late afternoon: Fifth Avenue South.

Evening: Dog-friendly patio dinner.

A North Naples Day

Late morning: North Naples brunch.

Midday: Rest.

Late afternoon: North Collier Regional Park.

Evening: Patio dining.

Naples Dog Rules to Remember

City beaches: no ordinary pets.

Public city parks: leashed pets generally allowed unless specifically restricted.

Naples Dog Park: registration/tag required.

Naples Preserve: pets prohibited under city guidance.

More Pet-Friendly Naples

Next in this cluster:

Naples is pet-friendly.

It just is not a dog-beach city.

Build the trip around greenways, parks, patios and nearby regional outings, and it works much better.
