Pet-Friendly Beaches & Parks: Naples, FL

Where dogs are welcome in Naples and where they are flatly banned - beaches, the Pier, the Preserve and playgrounds.

Naples has good dog-friendly parks and greenways, but its beach rules are strict.

The main rule is:

Ordinary pets are not allowed on City of Naples beaches.

That means your best dog-friendly outdoor choices are inland parks, greenways and designated dog parks.

Naples City Beaches

The City of Naples currently states that pets are not allowed on city beaches.

Pets are also prohibited on the Naples Pier.

Leashed pets are allowed in public parks unless a location is specifically restricted.

Clam Pass Park

Clam Pass is one of Naples’ best-known county beach parks.

Collier County currently lists:

No Dogs Permitted.

Do not assume the boardwalk or park setting makes it pet-friendly.

Naples Dog Park

Naples Dog Park is the city’s main off-leash dog facility.

It currently includes approximately:

  • 1 acre for large dogs
  • 0.35 acre for small dogs

Amenities include:

  • Shade structure
  • Benches
  • Human drinking fountain
  • Dog drinking fountain
  • Picnic area
  • Parking
  • Greenway connection

Current hours:

Dawn to dusk.

Naples Dog Park Pass Requirement

The city currently requires an annual dog-specific pass/tag for entry.

Current rules require:

  • Registration
  • Current immunization records
  • Pass tag displayed on collar

The current city rules also limit users to two dogs per person.

Puppies under 6 months are prohibited from the dog park.

Gordon River Greenway

Gordon River Greenway is one of Naples’ strongest leashed dog walks.

Collier County describes:

  • 140 acres
  • About 2.5 miles of trail
  • Asphalt
  • Mulch
  • Boardwalks

The county identifies the greenway as leashed-dog friendly.

Veterans Community Park

Veterans Community Park includes Rover Run Dog Park.

The larger park also welcomes pets on leash in appropriate areas.

Current park hours are generally 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Golden Gate Community Park

Golden Gate Community Park includes a dog park plus paved pathways and picnic areas.

This is another useful inland option.

North Collier Regional Park

North Collier Regional Park provides large grounds and walking opportunities.

Leashed pets are allowed in appropriate areas.

Naples Preserve

The City of Naples specifically prohibits pets at Naples Preserve.

Do not treat it as a dog-friendly nature trail.

City Playgrounds and Athletic Areas

Naples city guidance also prohibits pets from:

  • City playgrounds
  • Athletic surfaces

Use designated walking areas instead.

Where to Go for a Dog Beach

Naples itself has no city dog beach, and the nearest real one is worth the drive: Dog Beach, run by Lee County at 14436 Bonita Beach Causeway, Bonita Springs, about half an hour north. Lee County calls it simply Dog Beach – you will also see it written as Bonita Beach Dog Park, which is the same place.

Dogs may run free here. Open dawn to dusk, parking is free, and there is a dog rinse-off shower at the park, donated privately, so the car does not have to take home a beach’s worth of salt and sand.

Check the tide before you leave Naples

This is the detail that catches people out, and it comes straight from the county: the site is a tidal flat. At mid to high tide, the beach can only be reached by wading through water. Drive up at the wrong hour with a dog who does not like being carried, and there is no beach to arrive at. Look up the Bonita Springs tide table first and aim for a falling or low tide.

What is there, and what is not

  • No real restrooms – portable toilets only. Plan accordingly on a long visit.
  • Waste bags and garbage cans are at the entrance. Take a bag on the way in, and carry out whatever you carry in.
  • No glass and no alcohol. No fires and no grilling on the beach.
  • No fishing anywhere dogs are present – hooks and loose dogs are a bad combination, and the county spells it out.
  • There is also on-leash dog walking, a paddlecraft launch and good bird watching, so it works as more than a run-around.

It is unsupervised. No staff, no lifeguard, and the county is blunt that the place stays open only because people police themselves. You are responsible for your own dog and its behavior around every other dog there.

Naples heat can become severe.

Best times:

  • Early morning
  • Evening

Alligators

Collier County has extensive freshwater habitat.

Keep dogs away from:

  • Pond edges
  • Canals
  • Marshes
  • Reeds
  • Unfamiliar freshwater
