Daytona Beach is much more pet-friendly than it used to be. The biggest change is the 1.7-mile designated dog-friendly beach between Williams Avenue and Seabreeze Boulevard, giving visitors a real central-Daytona option instead of having to drive south every time they want sand and surf with the dog.

Visit Lighthouse Point Park
Lighthouse Point Park in Ponce Inlet is one of the area’s classic dog-friendly coastal parks. Dogs can join you in designated shoreline areas on leash. It is excellent for beach walking, inlet views and a quieter alternative to central Daytona.
Explore Smyrna Dunes Park
Across Ponce Inlet in New Smyrna Beach, Smyrna Dunes Park combines elevated boardwalk, dunes, inlet shoreline and dog-friendly beach areas. It is one of the best longer morning outings in the region.
Try the Ormond Beach Dog Beach
The Ormond Beach Dog Beach runs between Rockefeller Drive and Milsap Road. Dogs are permitted in the designated stretch on leash.
Visit Michael Crotty Bicentennial Park
The Ormond-by-the-Sea park has a four-acre fenced dog park with separate large- and small-dog areas, watering stations, benches and shade trees.

Riviera Oaks Dog Park in Holly Hill has separate large- and small-dog sections, fresh water and room to run.

Not every good pet activity needs to be a dog park. Leashed dogs can enjoy suitable downtown and riverfront walking areas, especially early morning or evening.

Dog Surfing in Daytona Beach
Volusia County hosted the Hang 8 Dog Surfing Extravaganza in 2026, and the event is scheduled to expand in 2027. Even if your dog is not competing, it is a useful future-trip event to watch.
Avoid Major-Event Overload
During the Daytona 500, Bike Week, Biketoberfest and other major events, the area can become loud and crowded. Noise-sensitive dogs may do better in Ponce Inlet, Ormond Beach or New Smyrna Beach.
