Pet-Friendly Vacation Rentals: Daytona Beach, FL

Volusia has four designated dog beaches. Which one you plan to use should decide where you rent.

Updated September 7, 2026 4 min read By

Vacation rentals can be an excellent fit for Daytona Beach pet travelers because the area stretches far beyond central Daytona.

You can choose from:

  • Daytona Beach condos
  • Daytona Beach Shores units
  • Ponce Inlet homes
  • Ormond Beach rentals
  • New Smyrna Beach cottages
  • Inland houses
  • Longer-stay properties

The most important decision is not the house.

It’s the location.

Start With the Dog-Beach Plan

Volusia County now has four designated dog-friendly beach areas.

That means your best rental area depends heavily on which one you expect to use.

Central Daytona Beach

Best if you want the newer dog-friendly beach section between:

Williams Avenue and Seabreeze Boulevard

A rental near this zone can dramatically reduce daily driving.

Ormond Beach

Best for access to the designated dog beach between:

Rockefeller Drive and Milsap Road

Ponce Inlet

Best for:

Lighthouse Point Park

This is one of the strongest areas for a quieter dog-focused beach trip.

New Smyrna Beach

Best for:

Smyrna Dunes Park

This can be a great choice if you want a more relaxed beach-town feel south of Daytona.

Why Vacation Rentals Work With Dogs

A rental may give you:

  • Private entrance
  • More floor space
  • Full kitchen
  • Washer and dryer
  • Yard or patio
  • Fewer hotel hallways
  • Easier crate placement

For a week-long stay with a dog, those practical differences can matter every day.

Beachfront Does Not Automatically Mean Pet-Beach Front

This is extremely important in Daytona.

A beachfront condo may sit directly on sand where ordinary pets are prohibited.

Do not book based only on:

oceanfront

or:

steps to beach

Look at the exact distance to a designated dog-friendly section.

Daytona Beach Condos

Daytona has a huge condo inventory.

Condo rentals can be convenient, but they may have extra association rules involving:

  • Pet weight
  • Number of pets
  • Breed
  • Elevators
  • Common areas
  • Pool decks
  • Pet registration

The booking platform’s pet-friendly filter does not override condo association rules.

Ask About Elevators

A 12th-floor condo with one slow elevator may become annoying when your dog needs multiple walks per day.

For older dogs, stairs are not always a realistic backup.

Look for Grass

Beachside Daytona can be surprisingly pavement-heavy.

A condo can be legally pet-friendly while providing almost nowhere convenient for a quick bathroom break.

Check:

  • Grass
  • Landscaping
  • Nearby park
  • Sidewalks

before booking.

Daytona Beach Shores Rentals

Daytona Beach Shores can be a good choice for travelers who want:

  • Ocean views
  • Quieter setting
  • Access toward Ponce Inlet
  • Restaurants

But remember:

The beach immediately outside the rental may not be a designated dog beach.

Ponce Inlet Rentals

Ponce Inlet may be one of the best choices for a dog-focused trip.

It gives you better proximity to Lighthouse Point Park and a quieter atmosphere than central Daytona.

Rental inventory may include:

  • Condos
  • Townhomes
  • Houses

Ormond Beach Rentals

Ormond Beach works well if you prefer north Volusia County and want access to the current Ormond dog-beach zone.

It can also be quieter than central Daytona depending on the specific neighborhood.

New Smyrna Beach Rentals

New Smyrna Beach gives you access to Smyrna Dunes Park and its dog-friendly shoreline.

For travelers who do not need Daytona attractions every day, New Smyrna may actually make the better pet vacation base.

Fenced Yard

If a listing says fenced yard, inspect the photos.

A fence may be:

  • Too low
  • Shared
  • Decorative
  • Incomplete
  • Open around a pool

Ask whether the entire usable yard is enclosed.

Pool Rules

Many Daytona-area rentals have pools.

Ask:

  • Can pets enter pool area?
  • Is pool fenced separately?
  • Are dogs allowed in pool?
  • Shared or private?
  • Screen enclosure?

Pet Fees

Rental pet charges can be:

  • Per stay
  • Per night
  • Per pet
  • Refundable deposit
  • Nonrefundable cleaning charge

Calculate the total before comparing properties.

Can the Dog Stay Alone?

This matters if you are attending:

  • Daytona 500
  • Bike Week events
  • Concert
  • Speedway tour
  • Indoor attraction

Ask whether the pet can stay alone and whether a crate or time limit applies.

Noise During Events

A rental close to Main Street may be fun for humans during Bike Week and miserable for a noise-sensitive dog.

During major events, consider quieter areas such as:

  • Ponce Inlet
  • Ormond Beach
  • New Smyrna Beach

if your dog reacts badly to motorcycles or crowds.

Hard Floors Are Useful

For beach trips, hard flooring makes cleaning sand, wet paws and shedding much easier.

Outdoor Rinse Area

A hose or outdoor shower is a major pet-friendly amenity.

Rinse:

  • Paws
  • Belly
  • Salt
  • Sand

before coming inside.

Vacation Rental vs. Hotel

Rental Usually Wins When:

  • Several nights or longer
  • Multiple dogs
  • Family/group travel
  • Need kitchen/laundry
  • Want more privacy

Hotel Usually Wins When:

  • One or two nights
  • Event trip
  • You want housekeeping
  • One small pet

Best Daytona Rental Area by Trip Type

Best central dog beach access: Central Daytona near designated Williams-to-Seabreeze zone Best quiet dog-beach trip: Ponce Inlet Best north-side choice: Ormond Beach Best relaxed beach-town alternative: New Smyrna Beach Best event-centered trip: Central Daytona / Speedway area

Questions to Ask Before Booking

  • How many pets?
  • Dogs only?
  • Cats?
  • Weight limits?
  • Pet fee?
  • Condo rules?
  • Fenced yard?
  • Can pet remain unattended?
  • Crate required?
  • Nearest designated dog beach?
  • Elevator?
  • Grass?
  • Pool rules?
