Paddleboard fishing with a dog is one of the most minimalist ways to fish Florida waters.
It also has almost no margin for clutter.
A dog shifting weight, a loose hook, or a sudden fish strike can turn a calm trip into a swim.
The safest setup is:
Stable board, dog life jacket, very little tackle, and a dog that already knows how to stay put.
Start With a Wide, Stable Board
For dog fishing, prioritize stability over speed.
Look for:
- Wide deck
- High weight capacity
- Non-slip traction
- Plenty of flat space
- Good secondary stability
A narrow touring SUP is usually a poor choice for a dog plus fishing gear.
Train Before You Fish
Before adding rods, hooks or bait, teach the dog to:
