Pet-Friendly Restaurants: Destin, FL

East Pass Coffee Co is the clear one; Boshamps, The Crab Trap and HarborWalk are the harbor candidates worth a same-day phone call.

Destin has a strong outdoor dining scene, but dog-friendly access is mostly about patios rather than indoor dining.

The official Destin-Fort Walton Beach tourism office currently highlights multiple outdoor restaurants and cafes that work well for pet travelers.

East Pass Coffee Co.

East Pass Coffee Co. is one of the clearest current pet-friendly restaurant picks in Destin.

The official destination listing specifically says to check out the pet-friendly patio.

The menu includes:

  • Coffee
  • Acai bowls
  • Smoothies
  • Toast
  • Sandwiches
  • Fried donuts

Address:

529 Harbor Boulevard Destin, FL 32541

Best For

Breakfast, coffee or a light lunch with the dog.

Boshamps Seafood & Oyster House

Boshamps is one of Destin’s best-known seafood restaurants and has long been popular for outdoor waterfront dining.

Because patio policies can change, verify current dog access before making a special trip.

Best For

Harbor-area seafood and a more polished dinner.

The Crab Trap — Destin

The Crab Trap on Scenic Highway 98 offers:

  • Gulf-front dining
  • Outdoor seating
  • Seafood
  • Sunset views

The official tourism office currently lists outdoor seating as a property amenity.

Dog access should be confirmed same-day because outdoor seating does not automatically mean pets are permitted.

Best For

Crystal Beach area dining with a Gulf view.

HarborWalk Village

HarborWalk Village is one of the easiest places to combine:

  • Walking
  • Marina atmosphere
  • Restaurants
  • Outdoor seating

Individual restaurants set their own pet policies.

Dewey Destin’s

Destin-Fort Walton Beach tourism has highlighted Dewey Destin’s Bayside for casual waterfront dining and dock access.

The outdoor setting makes it a strong candidate for dog travelers, but verify current pet policy directly.

LuLu’s Destin

LuLu’s is another popular family-oriented outdoor dining option in the broader Destin area.

Current destination tourism materials frequently include it among family-friendly dining choices.

Ask about current dog-friendly patio access before arrival.

Why Same-Day Confirmation Matters

A restaurant may change pet rules because of:

  • Weather
  • Events
  • Patio closures
  • Construction
  • Staffing
  • Health-code interpretation

Ask:

“Are dogs allowed on the patio today?”

before driving across town.

Destin Dining Strategy

  • Waterfront
  • Marina
  • Boats
  • Seafood

Best for:

  • Scenic Highway 98
  • Outdoor dining
  • Quieter atmosphere than HarborWalk

East Destin / Miramar Beach

Best for:

  • Larger shopping districts
  • Hotel dining

Heat

Destin summer patios can become uncomfortable quickly.

Favor:

  • Early lunch

  • Shade
  • Fans
  • Waterfront breeze

Fishing-Town Hazard

Around harbor restaurants, keep dogs away from:

  • Hooks

Why a Destin Patio Can Say Yes or No

In Florida, a restaurant cannot simply decide to welcome dogs. State law (Florida Statute 509.233) lets a local government allow dogs in designated outdoor dining areas, adoption is up to each government, and a restaurant has to apply for a permit first. Okaloosa County Growth Management publishes a Dog-Friendly Dining application among its planning and zoning forms. Destin is its own city, and we have not found a Destin-specific ordinance or a list of permitted restaurants, so we cannot tell you which Destin patios hold a permit. What we can tell you is what the law requires of any that do:

  • Leashed and under reasonable control at all times, and never on chairs, tables or other furniture.
  • A dog entrance that is not through the restaurant. Dogs cannot travel through indoor or non-designated outdoor areas, and reaching the patio cannot require passing through an indoor area. At a harbor restaurant with one front door, that is a real test.
  • A posted notice. A permitted restaurant must post notices for the public, employees and patrons, and provide waterless hand sanitizer at tables. Look for the sign before you sit.
  • Set days and hours. The permit lists when dogs are allowed in the designated area.

That is the practical way to read the restaurants above. Where the tourism office lists a patio without a pet policy, such as The Crab Trap and Dewey Destin’s, the listing tells you the seating exists, not that dogs are permitted. The question to ask is not just whether dogs are welcome but whether the restaurant holds a dog permit and where the dog enters.

Destin is not a dog-beach town.

Its strength is the combination of dog parks, harbor walks and outdoor dining.
