Destin does not allow ordinary dogs on its beaches, so the best pet-friendly activities happen away from the sand.
A strong dog-friendly trip can still include:
- Nancy Weidenhamer Dog Park
- Henderson Beach nature trail
- Destin Harbor
- HarborWalk Village
- Pet-friendly restaurants
- Outdoor shopping
- Boating
Run at Nancy Weidenhamer Dog Park
Destin’s main dog park is:
4100 Indian Bayou Trail
The approximately 3-acre park includes:
- Separate large- and small-dog areas
- Grass
- Shade
- Water stations
- Benches
- Waste receptacles
Current hours:
Sunrise to sunset

Walk the Henderson Beach Nature Trail
Henderson Beach State Park allows leashed pets on its nature trail.
Current pet rules require:
- Hand-held leash no longer than six feet
- Good behavior
- Cleanup
Dogs are not allowed on the beach.
The park’s nature trail is about 0.75 mile.
This is one of the better ways to experience Destin’s dune environment with a dog without violating beach rules.
Remember the Henderson Reservation
As of May 15, 2026, Henderson Beach State Park requires day-use reservations.
Check before arriving.
Walk Destin Harbor
The official Destin-Fort Walton Beach tourism office promotes a walk along Destin Harbor as a low-key outdoor activity.
The harbor has more than 100 boat slips and is famous for charter boats returning with the day’s catch.
A leashed dog can make this a fun outing if it handles:
- Crowds
- Boats
- Fish smells
- Dock activity
well.
Explore HarborWalk Village
HarborWalk Village offers:
- Shops
- Outdoor dining
- Marina views
- Events
- Boat operators
Individual businesses control their own pet policies.
Go Boating
Destin is one of Florida’s great boating towns.
Pet-friendly rental companies and private boat operators can make it possible to take a dog out on the water.
Always confirm current rules first.
Use a dog life jacket.
Eat at a Pet-Friendly Restaurant
Current Destin tourism listings include Boshamps Seafood & Oyster House as pet-friendly.
Other outdoor patios also welcome dogs.
See our dedicated Pet-Friendly Restaurants in Destin guide.
Visit Destin Commons
Outdoor shopping can be a useful midday or evening alternative to the beach.
Older local tourism guidance has specifically recommended Destin Commons as a dog-friendly outing.
Individual stores decide whether dogs may come inside.
Take a Regional Dog-Park Trip
The official Destin-Fort Walton Beach tourism FAQ also highlights Liza Jackson Park in Fort Walton Beach for its dog park and waterfront view.
This can be worth the short regional drive.

Destin is a good example of why a pet-friendly destination does not have to mean a dog-friendly beach.
The dog can still be part of most of the vacation.
