Walk the Beach
Leashed pets are welcome on Amelia Island’s regular beaches outside state-park beach areas.
That means a morning beach walk can be part of the daily routine rather than a special outing.

- Towel
Early morning and evening are best during warm months.
Explore Historic Downtown Fernandina Beach
Downtown Fernandina Beach is one of Amelia Island’s strongest pet-friendly areas.

Walk Egans Creek Greenway
Egans Creek Greenway is a roughly 300-acre wildlife area with a network of trails suitable for leashed walks.

Keep your dog leashed and do not allow it to chase wildlife.
This is real habitat, and alligators and other wildlife can be present.
Visit Fort Clinch State Park
Fort Clinch State Park is still worth visiting with a dog even though pets cannot go everywhere.
Well-behaved dogs are currently permitted on:

- Park drive

Dogs must remain on a six-foot leash and cannot be left unattended.
Dogs are not allowed:
- Inside the fort
- Inside buildings
- On boardwalks

Amelia River Cruises currently welcomes well-mannered pets aboard its narrated sightseeing cruises departing from Fernandina’s historic waterfront.
This can be one of the more unusual pet-friendly activities on the island.
A cruise can give you views of:

- Cumberland Island
- Local wildlife
- Historic waterfront
- Maritime scenery
Check the operator’s current pet rules when booking.
Visit a Dog Park
The Nassau Humane Society Dog Park is one of Amelia Island’s better-known dog-oriented attractions.
The facility has separate areas for different-sized dogs and a dog swimming pool.
Before visiting, check current:

- Fees or membership rules
For a dog that has spent several days on leash, an actual off-leash session can be a welcome change.
Walk the Amelia Island Trail
Amelia Island has multi-use trails that can work well for dog walking when conditions are cool enough.

Spend an Evening Downtown
Fernandina Beach is particularly good in the evening.
A simple pet-friendly night can be:

- Explore the waterfront.

- Take another short stroll before returning to the hotel or rental.
That is one of Amelia Island’s biggest advantages: dog-friendly activities are woven into the normal visitor experience.

Fort Clinch State Park welcomes well-behaved pets in both campgrounds.
That makes it possible to combine Amelia Island with an RV or tent trip.
Remember:
Dogs can camp at Fort Clinch, but they cannot go onto the park’s beaches.
For dog beach time, use the regular city or county beach areas instead.
Look for Wildlife — Without Chasing It
Amelia Island is excellent for wildlife watching.

- Turtles

At Fort Clinch, wildlife viewing can even include distant views toward Cumberland Island.
